The Governor General’s office has awarded both Muzyka and Zeschuk with the Order of Canada. As one of the country’s highest honors, the two have been recognized for their “revolutionary contributions to the video game industry as a developer and co-founder of an internationally renowned studio,” thanks to the work they’d done with BioWare for 17 years.
During their time at BioWare, both co-founders saw the studio increase in size by over 1,500 staff members, the creation of eight different international studios, the establishment and continued success of numerous franchises, and even the acquisition of the company by EA back in 2007. They both left BioWare back in 2012, choosing to take different paths, career-wise.
While speaking with CBC News, Muzyka was reflective of what he and Zeschuk have done for the Canadian gaming industry.
While its main focus now is the upcoming release of the highly anticipated Anthem, BioWare is responsible for working with and establishing a number of popular franchises in games both past and present. Other notable titles released by the studio are Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Baldur’s Gate, and Jade Empire.
As far as projects being worked on at BioWare currently, Dragon Age 4 was teased during The 2018 Game Awards last month, though is likely years away from release. For Mass Effect, the series is currently on hiatus following poor sales of 2017’s Mass Effect: Andromeda.
However with the return of now-General Manager Casey Hudson last year, there’s a strong chance Mass Effect could return sooner rather than later. Until then, Anthem will be at the forefront of BioWare’s plans, as the live service game will likely be supported with new content and updates for quite a while once it releases.
