For starters, the game itself makes a point to explain that dark red isn’t necessarily evil, just more on the selfish side of things. Likewise, a light blue aura doesn’t always indicate the good choice, but rather being helpful to others around the player. It’s important to keep this in mind if Biomutant players are aiming for a specific aura during their playthrough.

The most important things to note are that light and dark auras do not affect the ending or any major story points, so players worried about messing up the story or getting a bad ending can put those fears to rest. If players shift too far to either side, there will be certain NPCs that may refuse to talk to them or make comments about their morality, but this rarely locks players out of any side quests. In this aspect, players should feel free to play the game however they please.
In terms of gameplay, the main way that a player’s aura affects things is through Psi Points. These are primarily unlocked by finding Psi Shrines, at which point they will award the player with Psi Points based on their aura. There are a few abilities that can only be unlocked with either light or dark Psi Points, but even these aren’t missable. Players that have been playing a light blue aura character that really want a dark red aura Psi ability can get it by shifting their morality over to dark. This won’t cause them to lose any light abilities and the player could even go back to light when they get the dark ability.
Thanks to this fluidity, players truly are free to choose whatever they want when it comes to light or dark side choices. For those wanting to aim for a specific side, many players seem to think that the left dialogue option indicates a dark choice and the right dialogue option indicates a light choice, but this isn’t always the case.
Biomutant is available now on PC, PS4, and PS5.
