After the trailer, Ljungqvist showed off the character customization. Notably, the core stats are of typical RPG variety: Strength, Vitality, Charisma, Intellect, Agility, and Luck. However, Biomutant takes a unique spin on these stats, as they vary based on the main character’s appearance. For example, as the developer noted, a big head increases the character’s intellect, which improves various psionic abilities.

These stats appear on the right side of the screen, and they change as the main character changes. There are seven options for customizing the character’s appearance: gender, initial mutation, fur type, fur coat, primary fur color, detail color, and a character confirmation. While these choices have far-reaching consequences for the character’s ability, it is noteworthy that, later in the game, the main character can recode their DNA and change their stats. Otherwise, leveling up allows the gamer to boost their attributes. Check out the character customization below:

Afterwards, Ljungqvist continued to discuss various aspects of the game, such as the weapons. In the first year of development, there were over 500,000 possible combinations of ranged weapons, with each having a cooldown on ammo consumption. Melee was nearly as varied, and the main character can learn different Kung Fu styles from various tribe leaders. Moreover, the Breath of the Wild-like game also contains 7 different biomes for exploration.

It is also noteworthy that the character’s appearance isn’t the only thing that is customizable, as there are various abilities and options throughout the game. One of the available biomutations, for example, is the ability to repel bullets, and another option is a useable mech if a certain quest line is completed. It remains to be seen if the game is as successful as Breath of the Wild, but the game is certainly customizable, which is always a welcomed feature.

Biomutant is currently in development for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, with a planned 2018 launch date.
