Home video and music company Shout! Factory recently released a new 4K restoration of the original Bill and Ted movie, and it didn’t take long for viewers to notice something new. In a post picked up by Shout! Factory themselves, an observant fan pointed out that The Three Supreme Beings of the Future are seen hovering above what appears to be a miniature Circle K. This is a reference to where main characters Bill and Ted begin their titular excellent adventure, just outside of a local Circle K convenience store.

Even in the UHD footage, posted on the Movie Details subreddit, it’s a bit tough to see. But the logo is definitely there, and it caught even Winter (Bill) by surprise. When Shout! Factory took notice and posted the detail on their Twitter account, Winter retweeted it with an exploding head emoji, saying, “I have absolutely no memory of this.” He also tagged Bill and Ted writer Ed Solomon to see if he could shed some light on the situation. “I did not know this!” Solomon replied, further adding to the excitement of such a detail being hidden for so long.

Since neither Winter or Solomon knew about it, who could have included such a thing? Well, Winter further speculated that it was the doing of Bill and Ted production designer Roy Forge Smith, who also notably worked on the classic comedy Month Python and the Holy Grail. It certainly seems like something he might do, given the number of clever background gags seen in that film. Still, it’s incredible that the movie went over 30 years with seemingly nobody taking note of this little detail.

The Bill and Ted movies stars Winter and Keanu Reeves as 2 best friends who find out that their fledgling band is destined to unify the world in a utopian society. But they have to go through some wacky adventures to keep history on track, including traveling through time to complete a high school history project and even going to Hell itself in the sequel, Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey. The satisfying 2020 follow-up, Bill and Ted Face the Music, sees the duo’s respective daughters team up to help them finally write the song that fulfills their destiny.

They’re a solid and comforting trio of movies, even if the second one is a bit nightmare-inducing at times. But there’s a reason the franchise is so beloved even today, to the point where such Easter eggs can be found. They all deserve a watch, especially in these less-than-comforting times.
